A Change of Managing Agent for College Lawns
The performance of our managing agent, Scanlans Property Management LLP attracted a number of comments and criticisms from Members at the Annual General Meeting in July. These concerns were also shared by the Directors.
College Lawns is a special estate, with a distinctive history and natural environment that we are committed to preserving for future generations. The Board has therefore always believed that effective management requires a managing agent with a strong local presence and the ability to respond promptly to the needs of the estate and its Members.
Unfortunately, following Scanlans’ takeover by a national company, we felt that the concentration of accounting and contract management staff in Hemel Hempstead adversely affected the responsiveness and effectiveness of the service provided to College Lawns.
Having concluded that a change was necessary, we undertook a competitive selection process to identify a new managing agent with a strong reputation, relevant expertise and an effective local presence.
We shortlisted three Yorkshire-based companies and invited each to submit technical and financial proposals against a detailed specification of our requirements. Following a thorough evaluation, we are pleased to announce that Adair Paxton of Leeds has been appointed as our new managing agent.
Adair Paxton will assume full responsibility for the management of the estate on 1 January 2027, following the expiry of the formal 90-day notice period with Scanlans. The handover process has already begun.
Adair Paxton will introduce themselves directly to Members as part of the transition. In the meantime, you can find out more about their management services at adairpaxton.co.uk/block-management.
We will be working closely with them over the next three months as they build a detailed register of the estate’s assets and assist us in preparing the 2027 budget. They will also be gradually taking over the management of existing and future maintenance contracts.
For the time being, please address any enquiries to us at enquiries@collegelawns.co.uk.
